I bought one of these lights to see if it solved a problem that I had with another set of candelabra-base bulbs for a dining room fixture. I had experienced two difficulties: the old bulbs had E11 bases (there are two standards so E11 bulbs won't work properly in E12 sockets) and they stopped working after a few months. I have since bought 5 more of these bulbs to fill out the chandelier. At this point, I have no idea how long they will last; I'll post an update to this review if they begin to fail. This is NOT a bulb for a heat lamp. I checked with Sylvania; their response: "The referenced characterization is incorrect. The lamp actually redirects the heat generated by a typical PAR lamp back into the filament structure thereby producing a higher performance efficacy." This is an appropriate bulb for a recessed fixture.

My rating is meaningless, as I have not purchased it yet.

Update Oct 2013: Amazon has now corrected their description and no longer says it is a heat lamp. I have now used these bulbs for two years in 15 recessed fixtures that burn probably 6-8 hours/day. They provide beautifully bright, pleasing light. They are beginning to burn out now, consistent with their 3000 hour lifetime rating. They are expensive, but I find them worth the price.

TCP 2R2004 - 4 Watt R20 Compact Fluorescent Flood Light Bulb, 2700K Review

I have bought many of these lights over the years. I use 14 of them at a time as landscape lights that point down from the bottom of the eaves of my house. The manufacturer, TCP, rates the bulb at 130 lumens with color temperature of 2700 degrees. This is roughly the equivalent to the output of a 15 watt light bulb. So, they produce a soft, pleasing glow around the house that does not blind pedestrians at night or cause a nuisance to my neighbors. TCP also claims that each bulb draws an economical 4 watts. If this is true, I have never measured actual wattage, my installation draws only 56 watts to light every exterior side of my house.

TCP says the bulb lasts 8000 hours and covers the claim with a limited one year warranty. A year consists of 8760 hours, so I have never been able to use the warranty hold them to their boast. On average, I am sure that the bulbs last 18 months of 12 hour per day use. I compute that the bulbs pay for themselves after 1.4 years using a cost of electricity of 8.5 cents per kilowatt hour. If you figure the cost of incandescent bulbs, the TCP bulb would be even more cost effective.

In conclusion, the TCP bulb is a good one that will save more than its price in electricity.
