I had this buld in a small room and a medium room without a shade & totaly illuminated everything in the room. Barely faded near the far ends of the room. The small room was 15' X 25'. The big room was 35' x 40' amd worked very well. But if I had used two bulbs everything would have been totaly lit up. I was tempted to paint the walls to a semi gloss white latex but I was afraid of planes trying to land in the rumpus room! LOL
PS. I USED THIS BULB IN A STANDING LAMP WITH NO SHADE AND IT WAS EXCELLENT!
