Is it needed? Probably not. If you're going to expand your system later it will be a big help as you have 1 lead (actually 3) into 4 outlets. Each one is fused, so that's nice. You can isolate any connection when working on this.

A few things to keep in mind. I had some of the "plating" come off already. The allen head screws just don't seem to fit any of my bits. You have to cram the wire into the hole, so mash the ends first to have a larger contact area.

The cover isn't very secure & feels like it's going to break every time you remove or replace it. Be sure to tape over the open slots that you aren't using. It does have two mounting holes (bring your own screws), but you have to remove fuses to mount. You can zip tie it better, if you need to remove the unit to easily replace the fuse or add another wire.

Overall it's nice. Kind of flimsy, but you can isolate one lead while keeping the others connected. If you're going to use a distribution block, for a few bucks, this is a good one.
