The lamp is designed to retrofit existing R30/65BR30/PAR30 installations, thereby reducing maintenance and energy expenditures. It is also used as an energy saving light source for new fixtures and installations. LED lamps save energy by consuming much less power. They also run much cooler than most lamps, thereby saving on cooling costs, and reducing spoilage due to heat in cold storage and retail displays. There are no harmful gasses or mercury in LED lamps, like there are in fluorescent and compact fluorescent lamps. I put 8 of these in my kitchen last November. I'm home most of the time, and in the kitchen area regularly, so the lights are on in the kitchen most of the day everyday. I'm happy with the brightness and quality of the light. There is a very slight delay when you flip the switch and the lights are cold before the lights come on, but much less than CFL's. I'm only rating it 4 stars because I have had one of the 8 lights fail since November.
