I bought this product because I read the failure for condensation pumps usually comes from an issue with the float (which is how my old one failed, float got caught in the gunk at the bottom). So, this floatless technology makes sense to me. I really wanted a pump that would alert me if there was an issue, and the alarm hasn't gone off yet, but I think it does have an alarm. It says it has an alarm or you can hook one up, and I think it made a beep noise when I first plugged it in, so it can make noise (it was a few weeks ago). I use the pump to catch the water from my humidifier and a/c condensation. Water quality here is not good so the clear tank will tell me if I need to perform maintenance like clean the bottom of it (which I now know I have to do, very expensive lesson). It is slightly louder than the old pump I had, but the peace of mind it gives me with the blinking indicators, clear view, floatless design, and alarm are well worth it. It's as if they thought of all the failures of a condensation pump and designed something to prevent these failures. So far, this product is awesome. For the features, I would have paid much more
