I found if I didn't want this clipped to my hat, it also can clip to your shirt or to the chest strap on your pack. The light is bright for a two LED hat light and I can imagine using this as a light-weight supplement to my hand-held light on packing and camping trips. The only drawback is that you have to bring spare CR2032 batteries which probably won't be used in anything else you're packing. On the other hand, if it used AA or AAA batteries it would weight three times as much and would pull your hat down in front. Other lights I've tried are too heavy to clip to anything other than a baseball cap. I found this will work on my wide-brimmed Tilley hat (if you don't mind a bit of bobbing up and down). But it works best clipped to your shirt or chest strap. It doesn't hit people in the eye as much and it stays pretty stable.

Other heavier lights with multiple LEDs can be brighter. If you want that, I suggest you get one of the lights that strap to your head, and forgo the hat.
